Diana Bracco Awarded NIAF’s Special Achievement Award in Washington

Washington, USA , 11/06/2013

The historical National Italian American Foundation, which brings together the Italian community in the United States, has this year, on the occasion of the 38th Anniversary Awards Gala, conferred an esteemed award on Diana Bracco for her philanthropy.

The NIAF gala, which was attended by 3,000 people and numerous representatives from Italian and American institutions, first among them the President of the Senate, Pietro Grasso and the President of Confindustria, Giorgio Squinzi, presented President Bracco with a unique opportunity to discuss the Bracco Group’s presence in the United States. The event also afforded the opportunity to recount significant philanthropic projects in America initiated by the Bracco Group and continued by the Bracco Foundation: from the 2005 New York Metropolitan Museum exhibition on Fra Carnevale to the triumphant Scala Philharmonic tour in 2007; from the two major National Gallery of Art exhibitions in Washington – the first in 2006 dedicated to the great masters of the Renaissance: Bellini, Giorgione and Titian and the second, held two years ago on the 150th Anniversary of Italian Unification, dedicated to Canaletto and his contemporaries to round out the initiatives related to 2013, the year celebrating Italian culture in America.

The Washington Gala also provided the opportunity to announce a study grant, created by the Bracco Foundation in partnership with NIAF as part of the Progetto Diventerò, to be awarded to a young American researcher with Italian ancestry or an Italian residing in the USA. The subject of the study is the level of awareness among healthcare professionals about the importance of monitoring and preventing iodine deficiency in pregnant women and children.

Finally, as President of the 2015 Expo and Commissioner of the Italian Pavilion, Diana Bracco also took advantage of this moment to launch an appeal to the Italian-American community, encouraging them to visit Italy during the Exposition: “It provides a unique opportunity to visit your country of origin at its best, and to rediscover your roots and Italian heritage.”
