Bracco’s digital historical archive goes online

bracco historical archive

Operating in the field of life sciences, Bracco stands as a symbol of the success of the ‘Made-in-Italy’ system of manufacturing excellence. The story of Bracco’s success, available also in English, is to be found on the website of the Company’s digitized archives at www.archiviostoricobracco.com. One of the first things to discover on this unique website might be the epic story of the business success achieved by Cavaliere del Lavoro (‘Knight of Labour’) Fulvio Bracco, who, alongside Leopoldo Pirelli and Adriano Olivetti, was one of the great industrial entrepreneurs of post-war Italy. The astounding Bracco story unfolds across archives that have been thematically divided into five sections: Family, Company, Innovation, Sustainability, and Culture. The site pages boast a wealth of documents, unpublished photos and stories, even a podcast, all of them attesting to the solid values that are embedded in the very DNA of Bracco.

"Companies can use their heritage for strategic advantage," observed Diana Bracco, "because their heritage is what makes them unique and makes them stand out from their competitors. Another persuasive argument for investing in corporate heritage is that it strengthens corporate identity and culture, cements a sense of belonging, secures personal engagement, and serves as a compass pointing the way for future action. We are all aware that history shapes the future, which is why I am always reminding young people of the importance of remembering what happened before their time so that they may better aspire to change and continuous improvement."

With a mouse click or finger tap, website visitors can read compelling stories about the history of the Company and watch numerous audiovisual testimonials. In their broad historical sweep, the archives cover, among other things: the friendship between the captain of industry Fulvio Bracco and the scientist Ernst Felder; the Iopamidol revolution; the start-up of business at the head offices at Piazzale Susa; the construction of the large production facility in the Lambrate district; Bracco’s making it in America; and the Company’s conquest of markets around the world.

This great patrimony of archival resources is also available to the thousands of people working for the Company in more than 100 countries around the world. But what is in the archives? As regards sound and images, the Historical Archive contains hundreds of video and audio recordings and more than five thousand photographs chronicling almost a century of the history of the Bracco family and Company. A visitor to the archive can thus look both back at the past and forwards to the future of diagnostic imaging, the science of "seeing inside" that has revolutionized the world of doctors and patients.

Hard though it may be to credit now, shrimp was still being fished from the Lambro river for some years after the war. Via Folli even had a restaurant there called "Il Gambero" (The Shrimp). To underscore the connection with the Lambrate district and the river that gives it its name, when the production plant was being built on Via Folli Diana Bracco's father decided to save that little piece of local history. The "Gambero" buildings have been preserved, renovated and integrated into the new Bracco.
