Innovation and Sustainability in Radiology: Bracco's commitment at EXPO Osaka
Building Sustainable Radiology
Experiences and Innovations from Japan and Europe
During the week dedicated to "SDGs + Beyond Future Society for Life" at EXPO 2025 in Osaka, the Bracco Group, Gold Sponsor of the Italian Pavilion, promoted an event titled "Building Sustainable Radiology - Experiences and Innovations from Japan and Europe", where European and Japanese radiologists and experts share practical experience and innovative ideas on how to improve the eco-sustainability of radiology.
The objective of the initiative was to strengthen the global health sustainability agenda and lay out a course of practical actions for the new Japan Sustainability Committee, which aims to lead the realization of sustainable healthcare through the harmonization of radiology with the global environment, ensuring the health of patients and future generations.
The event was also the occasion for the presentation of several best practices, such as the adoption of high-efficacy contrast agents and the multi-dose and multi-patient approach, and several pilot projects such as Re.Viva and Re.Water by Bracco, which aim to increase sustainability in the end-of-life management of products and to promote circularity.
During the morning session, attendees heard from the following speakers
Noriyuki Tomiyama, President of the Japan Radiological Society
Tetsuaki Sakamoto, President of Bracco Japan
Andrea Rockall, Chairperson of the European Society of Radiology
Heleen Dekker, MD, MBA of Radboud University Medical Center
Soma Kumasaka of Gunma University
Hideki Ota of Tohoku University

The event closed with a speech from Valtero Canepa, Head of APAC of Bracco, who said: "Sustainability is not only a responsibility that we must observe but also an opportunity we must seize to innovate in and enhance the radiology ecosystem. It has been our great honour to carry our initiative to the Osaka Expo and join our Japanese colleagues in the sharing of experiences and the development of practical solutions to work in tandem towards a future of greater efficiency, safety and environmental sustainability."
