Interview Bracco Innovation Francesco Blasi

Francesco Blasi, from Bracco's global R&D division, takes us on a tour of the main research trends the company is exploring to transform imaging into an increasingly personalised and advanced key. 

 

From molecular imaging to artificial intelligence, all of the technologies Bracco is investing in have a common goal: to realise the potential of precision medicine and deliver the right treatment to the right patient at the right time. In this context, the concept of precision imaging was born, where imaging plays a central role in diagnosis, patient selection and therapy monitoring. 

 

Among its most recent projects, Bracco has launched a radiopharmaceutical in the United States that targets the biomarker PSMA, which is over-expressed in prostate cancer - a concrete example of molecular imaging applied to nuclear medicine, a field in which Bracco is developing numerous innovative programmes, including from a theranostic perspective: molecules that can see what is being treated and treat what is seen. 

 

But Bracco's efforts are not limited to nuclear medicine. Francesco also talks about ongoing projects in molecular ultrasound, which uses smart microbubbles to detect vascular biomarkers and could pave the way for new therapeutic applications. 

 

Finally, Bracco continues to innovate in the world of traditional radiology with solutions that combine diagnostic efficacy, environmental sustainability and digital technologies: new, less harmful contrast agents, smart injection systems and AI-based tools to help radiologists detect and characterise lesions. 

 

The goal is clear: put the patient at the centre, listen to the needs of professionals, and continue to push the boundaries of diagnostic imaging into the future.
