Bracco is committed to setting clear, credible goals to reduce its environmental impact. Across our operations, we are lowering our footprint through a broad portfolio of decarbonization initiatives.
Our efforts go far beyond cutting emissions and waste. We also work to protect water resources and biodiversity while integrating circular practices across our business, from packaging design to product recovery and the collection of iodinated and gadolinium-based contrast media for reuse and proper handling.
How does Bracco reduce its environmental impact?
Bracco works to reduce its environmental impact as the business grows, guided by a prevention-first approach across climate, resources, pollution, water, and biodiversity.
On climate, we invest in renewable energy, biomethane, and energy efficiency to decouple emissions from growth. For resources, we follow the waste hierarchy, prioritizing waste prevention, reduction, and the reuse of raw materials and goods wherever possible. Through innovative solutions and continuous improvement, we aim to maximize resource efficiency and advance sustainable manufacturing.
This approach extends to pollution prevention, responsible water management, and biodiversity protection. Across our sites, we take action to safeguard air, water, and soil quality, improve the efficiency and sustainability of water use, and incorporate biodiversity considerations into our environmental strategy and operations to protect habitats and support ecosystem resilience.

Flagship projects
Re.Water: reducing contrast media in wastewater
Bracco’s Re.Water pilot project explores new solutions to reduce the release of contrast media into wastewater after diagnostic procedures. The project uses dedicated filtration devices installed in healthcare facilities to capture contrast agents before they enter the sewage system.
Centro Diagnostico Italiano (CDI) in Milan is the first facility in Italy and among the first in Europe to implement the system, involving more than 1,000 patients to date. With strong patient participation and positive feedback, Re.Water demonstrates how innovation can advance more sustainable healthcare practices by reducing the environmental impact of contrast media and exploring opportunities to recover valuable materials.
SPIN Torviscosa: water efficiency projects in a water‑stressed area
Located in a water-stressed area, the SPIN plant in Torviscosa has implemented projects to optimize filtration and washing phases, reducing demineralized water consumption while maintaining product quality. Improvements in filtration have generated estimated savings of around 1,946 liters per batch, while further initiatives are underway to reduce water use and improve process efficiency.
